Effect: A magician bites a quarter in half and magically restores it back together, right in front of the spectator’s eyes!

Secret: The quarter you are supplied with is gimmicked. The quarter has two pieces, and each piece has jagged edges to give the illusion of a bite mark. These pieces fit together perfectly with a rubber band holding them together.

Supplies/Setup: You are supplied with replacement mini rubber bands. They wear out over time. Place the rubber band over the smallest piece of the quarter. Next, fit the rubber band into the ridge around the outside of the larger piece of the quarter. With the rubber band around the outside of the whole quarter, you will be able to fold the top half down and when you let go of the top half, it will pop back into place. Have a regular quarter in your pocket to switch out with the gimmicked quarter. Place the gimmicked quarter in your pocket and you are ready to perform.

Basic Performance: Take the quarter out of your pocket and hold it by the edge with your fingertips. Place the top half of the quarter between your teeth, and pretend to bite the quarter. Note: You are doing this to give the illusion that you bit the quarter in half. Use your lip to fold the top half of the quarter behind the rest of the quarter. When you pull the quarter away from your mouth, you will need to use your thumb to hold the top half down. The quarter has been bitten in half! Now, tell your spectator even more amazing than that, you will restore the quarter back together. Wave your free hand in front of the quarter, and as you do this, let go of the top half of the quarter, letting it pop back into place. The quarter has magically been restored!

Advanced Performance: The effect is much more impressive if you can borrow a quarter and still take a bite out of it. Start with the folding coin in your left hand, held in a natural position (at the base of the second and third fingers). The hand should look natural while the coin is concealed there. Borrow a quarter from a spectator and display it in your right hand. You will now perform a basic Shuttle Pass, switching the borrowed coin in your right hand for the gimmicked on in your left. Place your thumb on the coin in your right hand as you turn it over and pretend to dump it into the left hand. Turn you left hand over as you do this, pretending to accept the coin, but in reality, exposing the bite out coin that has been there all along. Now go through the Basic Performance as described above. Execute the Shuttle Pass in reverse to switch the gimmicked coin for the borrowed one at the conclusion of the effect, and hand your baffled spectator their coin.

Extra pieces/Extra cut coin:  Thank you for purchasing the add-on piece(s).  If you have only one piece, hand out that part and tell your spectator that they don’t want the part that was in your mouth.  If you have the extra coin, you can do a complete switch after you ‘clean the part’ that was in your mouth.
