IMPRESS-O COIN TRICK
THE EFFECT: The magician demonstrates finger dexterity by successfully rolling a borrowed coin down his fingers. Once the thunderous applause finally subsides, he explains to the spectator his secret to always winning coin tosses. Apparently, his finger is capable of magically capturing the impression on one side of the coin and transferring it to the other, essentially making the coin double sided. Unfortunately, the illusion is brief and the coin toss is lost, restoring the coin to its original condition. This trick is fast and definitely memorable. Especially if the double-sided coin is handed out for examination. This effect will be taught in THREE phases. The first phase is optional, but included for the sake of completeness.
PHASE ONE-THE COIN ROLL:

Although a challenge to master, the coin roll is an excellent display of coin magic-finesse. It all depends on finger agility. It also depends on finding a sized coin that works best for you. Some may like a bigger coin like a half dollar rather than a quarter. Bigger coins help you grip the coin better. Sadly, this is nothing you will learn overnight. It may take some practice to run the coin down your fingers smoothly.
STEP ONE-
– Hold the coin in your palm-up hand, basically resting onto your fingers. Place your thumb on top of the coin and slide it over to the area ABOVE your knuckle.

– As you slide the coin up, turn your hand over so your palm is face down.
– All your fingers should be, to the best of your ability, curved into a fist. Your knuckles should be parallel to the floor. Your hand should look as if you’re going for a “fist bump.” Either that or holding a toothbrush, while brushing your teeth.
STEP TWO-
– To get the coin “moving”, while the coin is resting on the side of your first finger, use your thumb to push the coin up, on the top of your first finger. Ideally it should be resting flat on the area ABOVE your first-finger’s knuckle.

– As the coin’s resting flat on the pointer finger, raise your middle finger slightly above your first finger.
– The middle finger will flip the coin over to your next finger.
– The motion is continuous. Push up with your pointer finger so that it revolves onto the middle finger. The coin will easily flip over, onto the area above the knuckle of your middle finger. You are now ready for the next flip.
STEP THREE
– You’re basically repeating the same steps you did with the previous fingers.
– Raise your ring finger and bring it down while simultaneously raising your middle finger. All in all, you’re flipping the coin upward as you’re pulling it down, over your middle finger.
– When the coin is resting onto your ring finger, raise your pinky finger. Again, you’re repeating the actions as before, but this time with your ring and pinky finger.
– Lower the pinky, try to grasp as much of the coin as possible when lowering the pinky.
– Instead of lifting your ring finger, allow the coin to fall in the space between your 2 fingers (the ring finger and pinky). Pinch and hold the coin between these two fingers.
STEP FOUR
– Finally, let the coin slid through your fingers. Loosen the pinch on the coin and let it slide through your fingers until it’s on the underside of your hand.

– Slide the coin back up to your pointer finger and repeat all the previous steps, for a continuous “flow.”
BONUS TIP- Practice over a bed. It’ll save the wear and tear on your back from having to bend over and retrieve the fallen coin.

PHASE TWO: Creating a double-sided coin.
After displaying coin manipulation skill (the coin roll), the magician offers to demonstrate his “favorite IMPRESSION.” With his magical fingers, he’s able to capture the impression of one side and transfer it to the other, creating a double-sided coin. For this you will need two things:
– A double-sided coin
– Mastery of the shuttle pass.
While delivering the following patter lines, you will be switching a normal coin out for your double-sided coin. “Can I show you my favorite impression? If I could get the coin soft enough, I can capture the impression of one side and transfer it to the other.” While showing off your newly created double-sided coin, say, “that way I can never lose a coin toss!” To switch the coin, you will need to learn the shuttle pass. The Shuttle Pass This is the method to casually switch in the real coin for the double-sided coin.
-The real coin is held in the right hand.
-The double-sided coin is secretly held in the left-hand finger palm.
-On the offbeat, both hands come together for a reason (i.e. to display your newly minted double sided coin).
-In this action, the visible coin is hidden in the right hand finger palm using the thumb while the hand is traveling towards the left one.
-Both hands turn over (the right hand downward, retaining the coin in the right-hand finger palm, and the left hand upwards, exposing the gaffed/double sided coin.
-Secretly keep the real coin hidden in your right hand classic palm, as you’ll have to switch the coin back to its original state. The move is carried out casually, naturally, and in a continuous motion.
PHASE 4: LOSING THE COIN TOSS
After displaying the quirky double-sided coin, let the coin drop to the table. You are now going to “lap” the double-sided coin, simultaneously switching it for the REAL coin. “Lap” is magician terminology for secretly dumping an object into one’s lap, creating the illusion that it has disappeared.
-Place your double-sided coin onto the edge of the table. With your right hand, and secretly HOLDING the palmed REAL coin, place your fingers onto the top of the double-sided coin and move it to the edge of the table.
-As the fingers reach the edge of the table, pretend to pick up the quarter with your fingers and thumb.
-The quarter will automatically be slid off the table and into your lap. This is done while your hand continuously moves.
-Just to be safe, keep your legs closed firmly to prevent the .25 from falling to the floor.

-You’ve successfully ditched the double-sided coin, but are still secretly holding the real coin in the right hand classic palm. Bring your hand up with your fingers, bringing the REAL coin back into play.
YOUR AUDIENCE SHOULD NOT KNOW THE COIN IS BACK TO NORMAL. At this point, all they saw you do was

1. Roll a coin.
2. Create a double-sided coin.
3. Set it onto the table and pick it up.
While giving the apparent double-sided coin a toss, explain to your audience that you NEVER use your “magic powers for evil” and after the toss, display the coin now as a normal coin. Essentially bringing the routine to an end. The coin is now back to normal!

POCKET MENTAL PREDICTION
Classic one-ahead principle with a double sided coin
Effect: This trick is a lay-person killer! The magician claims that they will amaze the audience by performing an entertaining feat of mentalism. The spectator names a color, a person’s name, and the tosses a coin in the air. Though the selection process seems fair, the magician manages to accurately predict each of the three outcomes!

Requirements:
3 small sheets of paper, a pen and a Double Sided coin.
The work:
This trick uses one of the most popular techniques in mentalism. It’s called the “One-ahead Principle.” With this principle, you can make mind-blowing predictions and perform some top shelf magic.
-Besides the “One-ahead Principle,” a double sided coin is the only special prop used for this routine. There will be some sleight of hand, but don’t worry, it’s very-very easy. This trick is all about mind reading, the last thing your spectators will suspect is sleight of hand. Again, don’t worry about the sleight of hand.

-Ask a spectator for some pocket change. You’re looking for a coin that matches your double sided coin. The reason you ask for some pocket change is to create the illusion of freedom and fairness. If the spectator doesn’t have a coin matching your double headed coin, ask another spectator for pocket change. While talking to the audience, casually reach inside your pocket and secretly hold your gaffed double sided coin in a magician’s finger palm ( holding onto the coin in a nonchalant manner ).
-Ask the spectator to lay their coins onto the table. Make sure they don’t align the coins neatly, as you need an excuse to touch them in order to rearrange them and eventually ring in the double-sided coin.
-Ask the spectator to think of a color. A “fun” color. No primary/secondary colors. This way, the experiment will not only be more difficult, but a bit more interesting. Colors like periwinkle, dusty rose, or navy flag blue. While you’re explaining this, just SWITCH IN the double headed coin for the real-matching coin on the table ( see the shuttle pass section at the end ). As soon as the switch is done, gather the other coins and return them back to the spectator. Your audience is totally unaware that you’ve successfully rung in the double sided coin. Casually pocket the REAL switched out coin.

-On the first sheet of paper, pretend to write down a color, but what you really write is “HEADS.” Fold the paper and put it on the table.
-Ask the spectator to tell you what their color was. Let’s say they selected the color magenta. Remember this color.
-Ask the spectator to think of a person’s name. One the second sheet of paper, you once again make your prediction, but this time secretly write down “your color is magenta.” After you fold the paper and put it on the table, ask the spectator for the name of the person they were thinking of. Remember this name.
-Finally, point to the borrowed coin. Explain that you will predict the coin toss. On the third sheet of paper write down “your person’s name is (the selected name )” Fold this third sheet of paper and put it on the table next to the other two.

-Give the switched-in double sided coin a toss and have the spectator note the outcome ( because the coin is double sided, it will always land on either heads or tails…whichever one you own ). When all this is done, gather the predictions off the table, mix them up a bit in your hand, and when read, they’ll all turn out to be 100% correct! Again, remember to mix the papers a bit before unfolding them, so that the spectators can’t remember the order they were put onto the table.
The Shuttle Pass
This is the method to casually switch in the real coin for the double sided coin.
-The real coin is held in the right hand.
-The double sided coin is secretly held in the left hand finger palm.
-On the off beat, both hands come together for a reason ( i.e. to return the remainder pocket change off the table and return it to the spectator ).

-In this action, the visible coin is hid in the the right hand finger palm using the thumb while the hand is traveling towards the left one.

-Both hands turn over ( the right hand downward, retaining the coin in the right hand finger palm, and the left hand upwards, exposing the gaffed/double sided coin. The move is carried out casually, naturally, and in a continuous motion. Also, don’t forget people shouldn’t be burning your hands. After all, you’re not performing world class sleight of hand, just world class mentalism! Oh, and don’t forget to return the REAL coin to the spectator, which you have pocketed earlier in the routine.
