Even though the seal is broken, you have received a new, never used, Brainwave Deck. In order to make a Brainwave Deck, decks of Bicycle cards are opened. The cards are treated and placed in order to make the trick work. USPCC does not do this procedure, so we do it for you.
Secret The deck uses a magic principle known and “Rough and Smooth” to make the cards cling together. You will find that the cards are oriented face to face. Make sure they stay in the same order. If you spread the cards, you will find that all the blue back cards are Clubs or Spades. The red back cards are Hearts and Diamonds. Clubs are paired with Diamonds. Spades are paired with Hearts. The rough texture allows the cards to stay together, but the slightest touch will cause them to separate.
Basic Handling: You can make any card in the deck appear to be the only card face up in the deck. Take the cards out of the box with the correct site up. Red back cards expose Clubs and Spades. Blue back cards expose the Hearts and Diamonds. Simply fan out the deck, and count to the pair that you need. When you find the pair use slight pressure to separate the cards. The face of the named card will appear face up amongst an entire deck of face down cards. Furthermore, it will be either a red back card in a blue deck or a blue back card in a red deck.
Marking: In order to quickly find the pairs you need, magicians us a pencil to mark the cards. Most magicians make a mark in the upper left and lower right corners of the deck. They mark the 7’s and the Ace in the middle of the deck. You don’t have to mark the cards. We allow you to make this decision and determine the placement of the mark. Please see the video for further information about the marking.
Helpful Tips 1) The deck should be broken in before it is used to perform. Make sure you know how much pressure needs to be applied to move the cards. It really is the slightest amount. 2) The deck cannot be shuffled. 3) Hearts are paired with Spades. Spades are an upside down Heart which is a good way to remember what suits are paired.
Basic Routine Set the box containing the cards on the table and have one spectator name a suit and another name a card in that suit. Based on the chosen card, remove the deck from the box with either blue backs (for Hearts and Diamonds) or red backs (for Spades and Clubs) shown. You will have to remember which way you put them in the box so that you pull them out correctly. Count to the correct pair and expose the bottom card. Then, for the finish, show the other side of the card is a different back color.
The order of the cards:
Place the Ace of Hearts, face up on the table.
On top of this, place the Ace of Spades, face down on top of the Ace of Hearts.
Repeat this process with all the cards in order: 2 of Hearts with the 2 of Spades on top.
Once you have completed the Hearts and Spades, place the Ace of Diamonds, face up on the stack of cards.
On top of this, place the Ace of Clubs face down. Complete the process using the same method as before.
